Prepare a Script
When petitioning for Committee Membership, have a script prepared (and a handout if possible) to introduce yourself to voters.
Here is an example and some talking points:
“Hi! My name is ____________ and I’m your neighbor on (your street) .
Based on the Board of Election voter rolls, we are both registered Republicans in Election District (your ED#) .
Many voters are unaware of this, but in our county, (your County) , there are (# of EDs) election districts.
And each of these election districts, including ours, is supposed to have two (2) representatives within the (your county) County Republican Party.
It is a volunteer position and I would like to be a representative for our community to give us a voice.
To qualify, I need to submit (number) signatures to the Board of Elections from registered Republican voters in our election district.
Would you sign my petition?” (If there are vacancies, mention that the neighborhood is not represented.)
“Are you familiar with Committee Membership and how it works?”
“Committee members are ‘voting members’ of the Repubican party.
They are instrumental in nominating candidates that appear on an election ballot for local government positions.”
(ask …) When you vote in an election, how does a candidate’s name get on the ballot?
Answer: Committee Members”
“Committee members also nominate and vote on party leaders, who in turn, either become or select delegates in state and federal elections.”
“Many people are unaware of this process and there are vacancies. As a result, some communities are not represented. This is contrary to a representative government … ‘of the people, by the people, for the people”.
“If you’re frustrated with elected politicians, this is the way to change that!”
